FAQ about flamenco

Class Description:

This class is designed specifically for students with no previous experience! From the moment you put on your flamenco shoes for the first time, we’ll guide you through the essentials, building a strong foundation in footwork (zapateado) and arm movements (braceo).

Now featuring live percussion, this class offers students a dynamic and immersive introduction to flamenco’s rhythmic language. The presence of a live percussionist enhances your ability to understand compás (flamenco rhythm) from day one, helping you connect movement and music more organically.

This class is perfect for those starting their flamenco journey, preparing you to progress to our Flamenco I class confidently, and maybe one day, shine on stage!

Experience Requirement: Must have completed at least one year of our Flamenco Intermedio course or have at least three years of continuous flamenco training and performing elsewhere.

Class Description:

This advanced-level class is designed for students who are ready to prepare for solo performance and dive deeper into the artistry and structure of flamenco. We focus on mastering the complete structure of a selected palo (style), while continuing to refine footwork (zapateado), arm technique (braceo), and overall stage presence. (Summer sessions do not include full choreography)

Each week, one class session is dedicated exclusively to choreography, giving students time to internalize and embody the chosen palo independently. The goal is for each dancer to understand the overall structure of the choreography, not just the steps, but how each section functions musically and emotionally, building confidence and readiness for solo performance.

This session, we are incorporating live percussion to enhance your understanding of rhythm and musicality. The presence of a live percussionist supports your timing and interpretation, helping you feel the compás more intuitively and connect more deeply with your choreography.

Summer 2025 Focus: SOLEÁ POR BULERÍA
This session will be devoted to exploring the structure and performance of Soleá por Bulería, one of flamenco’s most expressive and rhythmically rich styles.

Experience Requirement: Even though this isn’t a specific level class, it will be geared toward dancers who have taken at least one year of flamenco. You should have a solid understanding of basic flamenco techniques, as we’ll be working on more refined aspects of footwork and building stamina.

Class Description:

This class is all about footwork—perfect for anyone who wants to sharpen their taconeo and build strength in their technique. I’ll focus on all types of footwork, from basic patterns to more complex sequences, with special attention on getting clean, powerful tablas de pies. We’ll dive deep into rhythm, precision, and endurance, so you can feel the difference in your dance.

We are adding live percussion this session to support your rhythm and musicality. Working with a live percussionist will help you internalize compás more naturally and respond to rhythm in real time, strengthening your timing and control.

Expect a challenging, high-energy session that will push your limits and give you the tools to feel more confident and in control of your footwork. Come ready to work hard, sweat, and improve your flamenco footwork, one step at a time.
