Mathias Rodriguez

Mathias Rodríguez is a versatile guitarist whose musical voice moves fluidly through many worlds, weaving elements of flamenco, jazz, Andean traditions, and contemporary styles into his playing and compositions. He first picked up the guitar as a child, learning his family’s musical heritage under his father's guidance.

Mathias later deepened his studies with renowned flamenco guitarists José Valle “Chuscales” and Alejandro Pais Iriart, explored classical repertoire with Michael Chapdelaine at the University of New Mexico, and expanded his improvisational language through jazz studies with Jim Balagurchik.

Beyond the stage, Mathias has discovered a profound passion for working with young people. He currently teaches a bilingual 4th- and 5th-grade class in Albuquerque, bringing the creative spirit of music into the classroom. His work centers on expanding the possibilities of public education—cultivating a humanizing, historically aware, and transformative learning environment for his students.
